1st XI Broadstairs CC v Walmer, 18/7/2020

Broadstairs 1st XI kicked-off the delayed 2020 season with a home win against Walmer CC in the East Kent NHS Heroes League Division 2.

Broadstairs began their 45 overs innings slowly, reaching a meagre 43-1 after the first 15 overs. The scoring rate was then doubled over the remaining 30 overs and the home side finished on 229 all out with 2 balls remaining.  Key performances from Alex Hogben (79 off 88 balls), Elliot Fox (48 not out off 45 balls) and Matt Hardy (38 off 29 balls).

The early stages of Walmer’s reply suggested they had every chance of overhauling the total, reaching 49-0 in the opening 10 overs. Their rapid scoring continued through the next 10 overs and at 106-2 with 25 overs remaining, the visitors looked odds-on to win. However, a sequence of three wickets over the subsequent 6 overs coupled with some containing bowling put the home team back in the driving seat.  In the end, Broadstairs finished-up victors, restricting Walmer to 191 all out in the 39th over. Key bowling performances from Elliot Fox (5-43) and Chris Kidd (3-15)
