Looking forward to this season’s junior outdoor programme

6 Apr 2022

As we head into Spring, here is a preview of what to expect from the junior outdoor programme during 2022. As we announced recently, ex-Broadstairs player Isaac Dilkes will be returning to the club as Junior Head Coach.

In this role, Isaac will work with existing age-group managers and coaches to ensure the club can continue to deliver a high quality and sustainable junior programme spanning All Stars and Dynamos through to U11, U13 and U15 squads. In this role, Isaac will also be able to identify players who are ready to participate in senior cricket and help prepare them for a successful transition.

Isaac brings with him a wealth of playing experience as a former Kent CCC academy scholar and having played 2nd Class County Cricket for Kent for the past 5 years. As a talented coach and with 3 years’ experience of private and consultation coaching across Kent, Isaac is well-equipped to help transform the training and development programme within the club. Isaac will work with existing age-group managers and coaches to ensure the club can continue to deliver a high quality and sustainable junior programme spanning All Stars and Dynamos through to U11, U13 and U15 squads. The intention is to establish a positive and supportive culture throughout the junior section that is built on the following key principles:

  • Encourage players to be good people first.
  • A focus on fielding
  • Using positive reinforcement to encourage confidence
  • Nurturing players techniques rather than changing them.

The programme is detailed below and will run from April/May through to July. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your age group manager and/or Isaac on ivacricketcoaching@gmail.com

Support from parents is key to the success of the programme. As well as ferrying the players around so they are able to attend training and matches, positive reinforcement of the coaching principles through support and encouragement will help ensure the season is enjoyable and fulfilling for all. Beyond this, help with coaching, scoring, setting-up/clearing away on match-days is always very welcome. Please speak to your age-group coach/manager about how you can help. (For those interested in learning more about how you can help with scoring and umpiring, the ECB offer free, online courses and resources on umpiring and scoring to get you started).

We wish all the players involved in the junior programme every success and plenty of enjoyment for the 2022 season.
