1st XI away to Old Wilsonians

Promotion hopes for Broadstairs 1st XI took a knock this week with a defeat away to Old Wilsonians. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Seasiders struggled to come to terms with the damp and unpredictable pitch. A 56 run partnership between Swaroop Dasari (36) and Matthew Frewin (30) steadied the ship after Broadstairs had found themselves 33-3. Additional contributions from Harry Carter (32) and Jamie Dewell (16) helped the visitors to reach a competitive total of 173 all out in the final over.

As it turned out, in the absence of their usual frontline seam attack, the bowling combination of Carter, Dewell, Frewin, Dasari and Chris Kidd struggled to make inroads. Dewell clamed the wicket of opener Malinder Thotiwilage with the score on 54 but the visitors had to wait until a further 101 runs had been conceded before the next wicket fell with Harry Carter striking twice in 2 balls. However, by this stage the match was lost and Old Wilsonians cruised to victory with 7 wickets intact and 9 overs remaining.

The defeat leaves Broadstairs in 3rd place and whilst promotion is not impossible, it requires at least one victory (and most likely two) from their remaining 2 matches and for results elsewhere to go their way. The penultimate match of the season is away to Gore Court where Broadstairs will be desperate to reverse their recent downturn in form.
